Imagine a world where people take care of themselves, look out for each other and nurture the environment. Sounds great, right?
Well, we can start to make this a reality with just one small action each. To mark Random Acts of Kindness Day, I thought I would share some ideas on how you could spread some kindness.
Be kind to yourself
As the saying goes, you can’t run on an empty tank, so it is just as important to look after ourselves as it is to look after others.
One of the simplest ways to do this is to make some time to do something you enjoy. Whether that’s reading a book, going for a run or spending time with friends, allocate some time in your diary to do that specific activity.
To start your day right, why not look in the mirror and say three positive things to yourself? This will help to boost your confidence and ensure you start the day with a positive mindset.
When you next pick up a cup of coffee, rather than taking it on the go, sit down and take the time to enjoy it. Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that make the most impact.
Be kind to each other
We can make so much difference to other people’s days by carrying out small acts of kindness towards each other. At work, you could write a kind message on a Post-it note for a colleague to find on their desk, dashboard or staff area. You could even buy them a coffee!
You could be kind to strangers by donating items you no longer use to a local charity such as a homeless shelter or parent support group.
Another way to be kind to others is through leaving an online review for a small business that you have visited or purchased from recently. This can make so much difference to small businesses and might even make them do a ‘happy dance’ – something I do every time someone leaves us a positive review!
Be kind to the environment
A third way to spread kindness is to take care of the environment. You can do this by purchasing second-hand items from popular brands or charity shops and give clothes, board games and other household items a new lease of life.
You could also do a litter-pick in your neighbourhood – being kind to both the environment and yourself by getting some fresh air at the same time.
Finally, we always recommend using a reusable cup when you purchase your coffee and a reusable water bottle for those cold drinks. We are always more than happy to fill these up for you at our shops, and you’ll save some money too!
Which act of kindness will you be carrying out this weekend? Let’s work together to make the world a kinder place.
