As a small business ourselves, at Sarah’s Coffee Shop, we like to encourage consumers to shop local and support other small businesses near them.
We think the best thing about independent businesses is that they are run by real people; not by boards, stockholders or algorithms. This means that these businesses can bring some originality and variety into communities.
The people and families that run small businesses add character to the community and a warm, welcoming personality. You can’t beat the personal touch of a local business owner who, like me, knows nearly everyone from the business park who pops into the Colchester shop as well as the customers who drop by the Capel branch!
Research also shows that for every £10 spent with a local independent shop means up to an additional £50 goes back into the local economy, and can have a very strong and positive effect on the health of local jobs in the area.
Investing in local businesses also has a positive effect on the environment. At Sarah’s Coffee Shop, we use local suppliers: Primo Artisan Coffee, Prologue Catering & Events and Fairfields Farm. Not only does this mean that our products are as fresh as possible, but it also means our deliveries don’t have to travel very far, which in turn produces less pollution.
There are lots of ways to support local businesses without even spending a penny! You can help by following your favourite small businesses on social media or by leaving them a great review online. You can leave one for Sarah’s Coffee Shop on our Facebook page – it would mean so much to my small business.
Sarah’s Coffee Shop is open at Severalls Business Park Monday to Friday, 7.45am to 2.30pm and at the Capel St Mary branch Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm, Saturdays 9am to 12pm. So, do pop by and visit us for a coffee and a slice of cake when you can!
